About the Department

The Department of Commerce was started in the year 1982 due to the popularity of Commerce Course among women students. With the passage of time, the department has grown by leaps and bounds. To gain competitive advantage in the job market, B.Com (Computer Applications) was introduced during the year 1998 - 1999 as a Vocational Course (approved by the UGC). To meet the heavy demand for B.Com (CA). Course, it was also introduced as a Self-Finance Course during the year 2000 – 2001.

With the focus of providing higher education to rural women students, M.Com  was introduced in the year 2000 - 2001. From the academic year 2008 - 2009, M.Com was renamed as M.Com (CA). During the year 2021-2022, M.Com (CA) was converted into M.Com. With the aim of undertaking rigorous research work in the field of commerce, our department has been upgraded into a Research Centre during the academic year 2004 – 2005 and produced 99 M.Phil scholars so far.

The department provides ample opportunities to the students to keep abreast with the expanding knowledge through participating in seminars, workshops, conferences and symposiums on topics of current relevance.

       The department has produced a number of rank holders in UG, PG and M.Phil. Many state level and national level seminars, conferences, workshops and special lectures by eminent scholars have been organized by our department to create academic ambience..
