POLICY DOCUMENT ON PROMOTION OF RESEARCH

3.1.1 The Policy for Promotion of Research:

Starting with the notion of academic freedom as the leading principle of our research, at all levels, Arulmigu Palaniandavar Arts College for Women, Palani is committed to promoting and maintaining high standards of integrity and accountability in the conduct of academic research. It is keen to embed and endorse a culture of honesty and transparency in all its institutional activities. The college is dedicated to assure a free academic environment to conduct research, to teach, to speak and to publish, subject to the norms and standards of scholarly inquiry, without interference or penalty, wherever the search for truth, knowledge, scholarship and/or understanding may lead. The college invites its faculty and students to abide by the highest standards of integrity in their conduct of academic research and/or support to academic research activities.

The Research committee of the College, named Research and Consultancy Cell was established in 2012. The Cell comprises: The Principal, Research Coordinators, Research Guides and the Nominated faculty members of the Research Departments. Some recommendations and their impact are:

  • To make dissertation a part of the curriculum for UG & PG programmes.

  • To promote a research culture among faculty and students by facilitating participation in research and related activities, providing resources and other facilities

  • To assess the research activities of the institution periodically: Assessment by external experts and periodic evaluation have streamlined research activities and optimizedresearch output.

  • To notify the faculty and researchers about funding by different agencies.

  • To motivate the departments to organize international, national and regional seminars, lectures, symposia, and conferences and conduct classes and workshops on research methodology and e-resources.

  • To encourage the students to participate and present papers in seminars/ conferences, conducted by the other institutions.

  • To motivate the faculty to apply for major and minor projects and monitor the progress of ongoing projects.

  • To facilitate inter-disciplinary research initiatives and to promote research interventions.

  • To organize a national conference annually: The college organizes National seminars/conferences in which the research scholars of the college present their findings. Eminent researchers are invited to address the research community.

  • To enhance the number of Ph.D., holders, the faculty members are motivated to do research work and avail FDP leave and become research guides.

  • To promote the departments to attain the status of Research Centers: The Department of Tamil and History enjoy the status of being the Ph.D., research centers, under Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal.

  • To promote impactful research and innovative thinking: The faculty hasbeen conferred Ph.D. Degree and still more they are interested in going for Post-doctoral Degree.

  • To create an interest among the students to publish their research articles in international and national research journals, magazines, newsletters, and books.

  • Students conduct socio-economic and health surveys and organize extension activities based on these reports.
