SYLLABUS


BASIC CONCEPTS OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Objectives:

1.To educate the students on individual rights available to them as a citizen of India.

2.To impart knowledge on Human Rights Education.

3.To create awareness among the rural women students on Legal Rights and Remedies.


HUMAN VALUES AND ETHICS

Objectives:

1.To highlight awareness on civil and Political Rights

2.To orient the students on Current social issues like Caste Discrimination, Child Labour and Harassment of women and the role of Government and NGOS in eradicating the same.

3.To promote a sense of Communal Harmony and National Integration.

  • Unit I : Human Rights – Definition – Meaning – Theories of Human rights – Classification of Rights – the concept of Liberty and equality – Historical perspective of Human Rights.

  • Unit II : The Universal declaration of Human Rights – International Covenants on Human Rights – International Covenants on economic, Social and cultural Rights – UN Declaration on the rights to Development (1986)

  • Unit III : Human Rights and Indian Constitution – Fundamental rights and duties – right to equality – Right to get information act - abolition of untouchablity, Directive principles of State policy.

  • Unit IV : Women and Human Rights – right to education – right to employment and career advancement equal Remuneration – Crimes and Violence against women – Eve Teasing.

  • Unit V : Rights of children – Prevention of Child labour – Bonded labour - educational rights.
